Karl J. Schwartz (March 17, 1915 to February 20, 2006) was a member of the Bristol Rotary Club.  Born in New Britain Connecticut, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  Karl moved to Plainville where he owned a laundromat service.  It was later sold to create Sanitation Control in Bristol.  Karl moved to Terryville which he called home until the sale of his company.  At the time of his death at the age of 90, Karl lived in Merrill Oregon.

In honor of Karl's committment to the ideal of "Service Above Self," eight students from area schools will be awarded a KARL J. SCHWARTZ ROTARY AWARD scholarship this year. Those areas are Bristol, Terryville, Southington, Plainville and Burlington.
