YJI in the house! Friendship + New friend from Mexico

So nice to see our friend Jackie Majerus-Collins + Student Regina from Mexico
Jackie gave an overview of  Youth Journalism International - want to find out more - visit https://www.youthjournalism.org/ensuring-the-future-of-news/ + https://youtu.be/de3H0hFSfUg
Regina shared about her time with YJI and how it helped to push her to adulthood,  sharing that her world was small, and learned how breathtaking the world is now.  Meeting new friends through YJI has been amazing - emotional to meet 20 YJI friends from different cultures, and realize they had a lot in common like music, parties, and serious stuff too.  Being involved with YJI has built her confidence...so great to listen to really strong women at conference.  First was involved with Sexual assist project, interviewed doctors, lawyers, uncomfortable topic.  Students supported each other.  Wrote an article about single mothers & domestic abuse.  Project was bigger than us.  Changed so much...she doesnt know where she would be without YJI.

Another successful farmers market this past weekend.  A volunteer sign up sheet was sent around, we consistently need volunteers.  Last week we had around 600 people visit the market (Jim purchasing a clicker to better track guests)  Excited to announce Aroma Joe's as a new vendor - bringing total vendors to 21.  When you volunteer be sure to chat with people walking by - this is our opportunity to share Rotary with the city.  Good news - we will now have a Porta potty at the market - vendors have chipped in to fund this. We will add YJI brochures to our table!
Mini Golf Committee met at the beginning of July - A big thank you to Patti who updated the sponsor benefit form and returning sponsor letter.
Both will be out to the club shortly!  Great time to think of new sponsors or nudge those that have donated in the past!

The Scholarship Committee met last night, July 11th.  There will also be a meeting in August just before Jim travels South for the winter.  New members to the committee include President Peter, Les + Lee (I may have missed a name - lw)
